Jesus replied, “You do not understand now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” (John 13:7)
When you cry or feel overwhelmed, you must know that God is there, holding your hand and comforting you. And when you are happy, He celebrates with you.
How many times do we ask or question God about the reason behind certain situations in our lives? Often, when something happens that is beyond our control and that we do not understand, it could be the loss of someone, the end of a relationship, an illness, an accident, unemployment, disappointment... We ask the Lord why and truly struggle to understand.
However, the Bible teaches us that God is always in control of everything. If we have Him as the author and finisher of our faith, we can trust and rest in Him. We may not understand what Jesus is doing, but He knows very well. Later, we will understand that everything that happens to us helps our growth, in faith, in love, and in the knowledge of the Lord. Even when we do not understand, our character is being shaped as we go through difficulties, trusting and loving God with all our heart.
Understanding what God does:
- Trust more! Try to remember past events that helped you grow and depend more on God.
- Pray and place everything in the Father's hands, all your questions or doubts. Believe that He knows and is in control of everything.
- Jesus is our best example. Read the Bible and learn about His love, His service, and His unconditional surrender.
- Lay all your anxieties and your heart at the foot of the cross of Christ. Rest in the peace of Jesus.
- Believe even before understanding what is happening.
- Share your doubts with brothers who have more experience in faith and ask them to pray for you.
To pray: Lord my God, even though I do not understand the reasons for all the turmoil I am going through, I want to trust more in You and in Your Word. Help me to believe with all my heart that You have control of my life in Your hands. I trust that You are good and faithful, that You have a firm purpose in all things. Give me strength and increase my faith more each day. In the name of Jesus, amen.
